But in this dog-eat-dog market, designing sub-segments in already established genres has become a trend and BMW is sure to keep up to speed. In contrast to their product line-ups in 2000, their latest offers are so many that it would take you a great deal of time to scour through them all and take your pick. They are everything a car lover wishes to have in his garage. Let us see what Ishan Raghava has to say about the BMW 6 GRAN TURISMO (GT), a spacious and comfortable sedan that has just gone on the market.
REVIEW
DESIGN
The company has to put in a lot of effort to establish sub-segments that are unique and don’t rip off sales of other segments. BMW 6 GT has a novel design that stands out sternly against the 5 series. Its various feature like a higher roof, longer length, and sharply cut off rear end give this car an identity of its own. The trend of oversized nostrils that the BMW cars prided in has thankfully left this 6 GT untouched. The kidney grille has been given a more angular shape and the front light design has been modified to give a better focus. The leather sports steering wheel and controls in high-gloss black give this car an extravagance that car enthusiasts crave.
One detail that requires attention is the Laser headlights. These can be readily appreciated, curtsey of the blue trims on the headlights, and are a sign of the technology becoming increasingly advances. BMW has claimed that these adaptive laser lights are fitted to illuminate up to 650 meters of a road when going at high speed.
One drawback that can be highlighted in 6 GT is that its read end with a sharp cut-off and a high boot line isn’t pleasing to the eye.
INTERIORS
The interiors of 6 GT surely will blow your mind. The front seats are so spacious and comfortable that you can bid those sore legs after hours of driving goodbye. And the digital displays are so many that it will leave you scratching your head. The BMW iDrive is built in such a way that you will never have to take your eyes off the road while controlling all the functions in your car. The screens will not disappoint you with their high resolution. And if you are someone who loves a little music on the go, 6 GT is fitted with wireless Apple CarPlay so you can just sync your phone and have a seamless time listening to your favorite tunes.
The gauge design on the other hand will remain a minus not just in 6 GT but in all BMW cars due to its unnecessary complication. Even the information display of the digital instrument fails to evoke excitement and is unsatisfactory.
Indubitably, the highlight of this vehicle will be its rear seat. It has an extended wheelbase of 3 meters and massive legroom and headroom. The large rear windows and C-pillar glass are just the right cherries on top of an already scrumptious cake. The grand panoramic sunroof and window blinds in both the rear doors are some other desirable features of this luxurious car.
DUAL NATURE
Another impressive feature of the BMW 6 GT is its adaptive air suspension. It offers four driving modes- Eco Pro, Comfort, Sport, Adaptive. The car transitions to rapid throttle response, smooth and quick gearshifts, and a tied-down ride in the Sports mode. So all of you craving a taste of a sports car ride will be catered. It is different from the 5 series in its increased length, its weight as well its height, and center of gravity.
In Comfort mode, you will have the luxury of a pleasantly smooth ride even on a bumpy road despite the enormous 19-inch wheels. It is especially well-suited to your needs if you like to be chauffeured around.
It has three engine options- a 2.0-liter diesel, a 3.0-liter diesel, and a sole 2.0-liter petrol option. The engines have an 8-speed automatic transmission, and the gearshifts are excessively seamless and quick. You won’t feel a thing while changing gears.
