What Experts Says On – The Substitute Of A Good Leader

Dr. Kiran Bedi

Kiran Bedi who is known to the world as on the strongest females in India, is the former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. She is the first Indian female to become an officer in the Indian police and began her service in 1972.

A leader is not validated during the time of comfort but during the time of crisis and challenge. Great leaders come with utmost determination, sheer courage, endlessly evolving skills, and most importantly, the ability to impact the lives of people who run in circles, searching for a way out. Decisions play a vital role as a leader. Because the decisions made today are the results of tomorrow.

Kiran Bedi is one of the strongest females who owns the word fearless. She was taught to be fearless. She was trained to be fearless and she inspired everyone around her to be fearless. Human fears can be daunting. When faced with no fears typically means the comfort zone is your home. Although, true leaders cannot constrain themselves within their comfort zone. For when an individual faces their fear, making all the efforts to prove their power is superior to their fear, it is the true mark of a leadership persona. Being brave doesn’t mean not being scared, but it is stepping up and doing what needs to be done, despite your fears. Kiran Bedi when asked if she had faced fear she said,

“I have faced fear but for a split second, and then the whole focus became how do I surmount it, what do I do to win the situation.”

Leaders are born and grown as givers, not takers. When a person prospers and emerges as a leader, he or she earns people’s trust, and that serves as their power to be the leading force that is necessary to drive things around and overall functioning. The power which draws the needs of the people and aids them as well is the gift bestowed upon leaders who will go down in history, whereas the people who use dominance to focus on self needs alone are regarded as counterfeit. As the right leader you can give or serve people through instant power. Power becomes a strong substitute to a good leader. It aids in contemplating the needs and serving them. To Ms. Kiran Bedi police stood for power to connect, power to prevent and power to detect.

The injustice caused by discrimination cannot be a factor for a person determined to be a leader judged as a hindrance. The interpretation of a decision can be widely prejudiced because of gender, but Kiran Bedi was unsurprisingly never subjected to such discrimination. At times people did envy the growth and fearlessness of leaders, but it stands along with the courage to break the speculations and pave the way for many others to follow. The fearless women simply said,

“I didn’t bother, they didn’t bother.”

When a normal person is being blocked by egoistic humanity, they surrender. However, leaders do not, they are not born to be surrendered or broken, they are born to make a way even in unfathomable situations. Leaders are also people with human emotions. Grief, anger, sadness, and vulnerability to emotions are innate. But leaders don’t dwell or let emotions imprison them. They stay vigilant through every move they take and at the same time empathize and be concerned about the people they serve.

Difficult situations build a leader. At times the situation is a reciprocation of society’s stereotypes or unnecessary standards. A determined leader breaks the stereotypes to make his/her own way and builds the path for the forthcoming people as well. Despite the stereotypes, problems, and fears faced, every leader is first a son or daughter. Thus, parents play a vital role in shaping a child who later transforms into a leader. A great leader’s first mentors and guides are not rocket scientists or astrologists, but their parents. If the initial acceleration is at the right momentum things are set straight for the latter. But sometimes other factors stand in the way of parents to give the best for their children like monetary benefits, and societal judgments albeit some people manage to struggle through it all and stand strong. Kiran Bedi belonged to an era where the land didn’t belong to the women in India, but to the men, who inherited their father’s businesses and led on. Though this was the situation, her father didn’t think twice to stand against the odds and decided to educate all four of his daughters, Kiran Bedi being the eldest.

Ms. Kiran continues to follow two of her parents’ advice which inevitably led her to who she is now. She said,

“Life is an incline, you either go up or come down.”

Learning is a never-ending process. It is a skill that helps you stay in motion. It will help you make precise decisions which are essential for a leader because, in life, 90% of the actions we take are the consequences of the decisions we’ve made. If they are astounding and good, celebrate them. If it’s hard to swallow, learn from it. The rest 10% are natural problems we are obliged to face which cannot be put at a halt. Leadership is valuing what you have, they are always concise and conscious of the opportunity laid around them. Opportunities can sometimes be a problem in disguise. A person with distinguished leadership qualities will not run away from the problem but will take responsibility and be accountable for it. Solving the problem laid in front, rather than hiding away from it shows real courage.

Leaders are survivors. In today’s age of viruses, protests, and social injustice, we all live to survive another day. Taking control of the situation, standing up for one of our own, fighting for justice, and raising our voices, makes each one of us a leader. The prodigious power of a leader is their voice. Employing it for the right reasons can move mountains. Tranquility only shows signs of consent, so raise your voice. Don’t be afraid to stand up for what’s right. A good leader is one who not only empowers the leader in them but also celebrates the leader in everyone.
